Three different singing groups to suit all interests, ages and abilities

Aldeburgh Voices

  • Over 18, auditioned

Led by charismatic conductor Ben Parry, our new choir, Aldeburgh Voices has been quick to establish itself as a high-quality ensemble, with regular appearances in the Festival and Aldeburgh Music’s acclaimed year-round programme of events.

Highlights of the forthcoming season include performances of Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Britten-Pears Orchestra over Easter, Britten's Film Music in the Aldeburgh Festival, A come-and-sing Musical in the August Proms, and a specially-devised Christmas programme in Aldeburgh Church to herald the beginning of the Britten Centenary in 2013, in which the choir will take an active role.

Made up of the best choral singers in the region, ambitions are high but the atmosphere is welcoming and supportive.

For the 2012/13 season, the choir is now inviting new singers to audition; the deadline is 19 January. The audition will be 10 minutes, with some sight-reading and aural tests and a piece of music to prepare, sent out a week before.

If you are interested and want to find out more, please contact rlaughlin@aldeburgh.co.uk for more information or to arrange an audition.

Aldeburgh’s Big Shout

  • Any age, any ability, no audition

If you love to sing, can’t /can read music, don’t want to join a “choir” but want to be part of the thrill of communal singing, then this is the group for you. No auditions, all welcome, lots of fun and a chance to sing all different styles of music led by inspirational professionals.

You can choose your projects - there will be two large events a year - with further opportunities throughout the season to participate in smaller workshops and in the Aldeburgh Festival's Open Air events.

If you are interested in exploring the possibility of Big Shout workshops being run in your area, please contact the Education Department at Aldeburgh Music.

We had a wonderful time singing sea shanties with the incomparable Kimber's Men in the Big "Shanty" Shout in September and you can see them in action on the video below!
