Welcome to the first edition of the Aldeburgh Alumni e-newsletter.
The aim of the Aldeburgh Alumni Club is to create a network
for the many people who have performed, studied or worked
here, to get back in touch with us and with each other. Anyone
who has been here knows how unique and special Aldeburgh is
and it has provided many with life defining experiences. The
musical and non-musical world is full of people who have shared
the benefits of the Aldeburgh experience and now there is
a chance to re-connect with it.
It seems a fitting moment to launch the Aldeburgh Alumni
Club, as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the BrittenPears
Young Artist Programme (formerly the BrittenPears School
for Advanced Musical Studies), the 60th Aldeburgh Festival
and nearly 50 years of the Hesse Student scheme. We are planning
reunion events, e-newsletters and a huge bash in 2009 to celebrate
the opening of the new campus.
Having attended a French Song course with Suzanne Danco and
Hugues Cuénod in 1990, it took me 15 years to return
to Aldeburgh. I have been astonished by the range of projects
going on here. The BrittenPears Programme and the Aldeburgh
Festival are thriving and a ground-breaking programme of Aldeburgh
Residencies has been launched. Even if you can't come here
in person, please give us your news. Or simply get back in
touch with old friends through the alumni network zone we
are launching on our website, www.aldeburgh.co.uk.
I hope you enjoy this first edition of the newsletter and
I look forward to hearing from you.
Megan Peel, (née Spurdle) French Song 1990
Alumni Coordinator, Aldeburgh Music.
