Alex Pierce, (Hesse 2010) is happy to have recently been hired by the St. Louis Symphony in Missouri as Production Co-ordinator. He writes:
'So far everything has been wonderful, and I’m continuing to adjust smoothly to my new city. I hope that all is well with you, and hopefully I can make it out to Snape Maltings again.'
Iain Burnside (Hesse 1974) has created a new play based on the life of Ivor Gurney, the poet, composer and soldier of the Great War called UNKNOWN DOORS. It is a collaboration between the vocal, keyboard and technical theatre departments and Guildhall ResearchWorks. It is a fully staged performance for three nights in March before it joins the 2011-12 Barbican season.
Recent Hesse students have come back to help us out at Aldeburgh Music: Stephanie Harsant (Hesse, 2005) as AYM Administrator, Kate Whitlock (Hesse, 2008) as Artist Development Assistant, Hannah Cott (Hesse 2008) as Festival Intern and James Calver (Hesse 2007) who was our Artist Development Intern 2010.
Paul Schleuse (Hesse, 1991) wrote in:
'I participated in the Hesse Student Scheme back in 1991, and I've always looked back on it very fondly—from a wonderful double-bill of Sumidigawa and Curlew River, to a very long day helping to deliver the set and costumes for Punch and Judy back to Kent.'
Paul is now Assistant Professor of Musicology and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Music at Binghamton University (SUNY).
GERMAN HESSE ALUMNI
I have been in touch with some of the German Hesse students who were members of the Darmstadter Kantorei. As over half of the students were from Germany in the early days, we are anxious to get back in touch with as many as possible. Ellen Gottschämmer (Hesse, 1990) was very helpful and we are always on the lookout for more from the Darmstadt days.
I met Louise Mock (Hesse 1969), a ceramicist at a Christmas party and it turns out that her son, Thomas O’Grady (Hesse 2005) was also a Hesse Student. There are lots of family dynasties in the Britten–Pears Young Artist Programme and I am sure that are lots in the Hesse Students too. Last summer, Geoff Williams was a Hesse Student and his uncle Vivian Williams was a Hesse Student in 1969.
We are always keen to hear from past Hesse Students - please send your news to Jane Alexander on email@example.com
Our alumni come back on various courses and in different capacities, so each alumnus/a is represented on these pages by the first course that they attended.
