Programme in detail

Wednesday 13 July 2011 - Friday 22 July 2011

Composition with Knussen

Oliver Knussen, Colin Matthews course directors

The list of Britten–Pears young composers reads like a who’s who of composition in the last 25 years, including such names as Thomas Adès, Julian Anderson and Luke Bedford. A group of 20 instrumentalists – drawn by invitation from emerging talent in the BPO as well as established professionals – join six young composers to work on new music as well as key pieces from the last 100 years. Oliver Knussen is joined by a galaxy of tutors who, in recent years, have included Michael Thompson, horn, cellist Anssi Karttunen and Melinda Maxwell, oboe. All new music will be showcased in a final performance which will form the basis for a high profile concert at the 2012 Aldeburgh Festival. Composers should apply; instrumentalists should express an interest on
audition applications.

All instrumentalists’ expenses will be met. Composers must cover travel, accommodation and food costs (bursaries available).

Concert 22 July 2011, in the Britten Studio
