A group of 20 instrumentalists – drawn by invitation from emerging talent in the BPO as well as established professionals – join six young composers to work on new music as well as key pieces from the last 100 years.

Matthias Goerne is known as one of the world’s great interpreters of Schubert lieder and will be performing the three great cycles with Pierre-Laurent Aimard on consecutive days at the 2011 Festival.

Participants on this intensive course will work with Sir Colin Davis and Michael Harris to prepare an unconducted Festival performance of Mozart’s incomparable masterpiece alongside Messiaen’s groundbreaking exploration.
