Programme in detail

Saturday 4 July 2009 - Monday 13 July 2009

Contemporary Composition and Performance

Course directors: Oliver Knussen, Colin Matthews, Magnus Lindberg

Alumni from the Britten–Pears composition courses read like a who's who of composition from the last 20 years, including such names as Thomas Adès and Julian Anderson. A recent alumna, Anna Meredith, was commissioned for the 2008 Last Night of the Proms.

A group of 20 instrumentalists join six young composers to work on ensemble masterpieces of the 20th and 21st centuries, and to provide a live performance tool for the composers to try out their ideas, leading to a final concert where all the newly written works will be showcased.

Participants must cover their travel, accommodation and food costs (bursaries available).

Concert 13 July 2009, in the new Britten Studio

Supported by The Leverhulme Trust
