Aldeburgh Education recognizes that the role of a leading arts organization extends well beyond entertainment to activities that inspire, educate and enrich the lives of a diverse community. We seek to develop Britten’s vision of placing the artist at the centre of the community, using a range of arts professionals as a catalyst for individual creativity, whilst also providing training and development opportunities for younger artists.

Our work enables professional composers, performers and artists of all creative disciplines to work within the community. Apart from the community benefits, this allows many to develop new skills, often inspiring them as performers.

Through our creative arts and technology projects, we provide a means for the community to form new partnerships, starting to work together through a common purpose, boosting morale, bridging gaps, opening communication and gaining trust.

Much of the work that has been developed strives to facilitate opportunities for participants to explore Aldeburgh as a whole. The education department could be seen as opening a door to the organization, which then – by working principally with marketing and development – finds ways of offering new opportunities and experiences. In this respect, education plays a vital role in the development of new audiences, both as initiator and enabler.

Our work increasingly uses new technology and includes the development of an online, virtual arts centre, known as TAG (The Aldeburgh Gateway)
