Following a residency at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Aldeburgh Education commissioned Simon Daw and Gavin O'Carroll to explore the idea of creating an interactive 'sculpture' which could be added to by anyone in the world! The resulting construction, using up to 80,000 matchsticks on the beach at Aldeburgh, exploits the latest creative technology. It explores fragile, man-made structures versus nature (the marshes and the sea) and went 'live' in May 2005. Click on the image to make your contribution and view the gallery of previous structures.
The installation was also translated into a physical reality with an added musical soundscape for Festival-goers to discover and experience among the marshes at Snape Maltings Concert Hall on Sunday 26th June 2005.
