'Snapescape online'

Snapescape online (2007)
Aldeburgh Education commissioned Mike Challis and Richard Lewis to explore
the idea of creating an interactive soundscape which could bring the unique
setting of Snape to anyone in the world! The resulting work is an online mixer
which allows you to select and mix the sounds of Snape and Aldeburgh. Using
the latest technology and innovative programming, you can now experience the
sounds that make Snape such a special place: the wind in the reeds, the birds
across the marshes, the bustle of the Maltings, sounds of music drifting through
the air..... Click on the image to explore this further and return to it again
and again as the sounds change with the seasons.
Bridge across the marsh (2005)
Following a residency at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Aldeburgh Education
commissioned Simon Daw and Gavin O'Carroll to explore the idea of creating
an interactive 'sculpture' which could be added to by anyone in the world!
The resulting construction, using up to 80,000 matchsticks on the beach at
Aldeburgh, exploits the latest creative technology. It explores fragile, man-made
structures versus nature (the marshes and the sea) and went 'live' in May
2005. Click on the image to make your contribution and view the gallery of
previous structures.
The installation was also translated into a physical reality with an added musical soundscape among the marshes at Snape Maltings Concert Hall on Sunday 26th June 2005.
