Education and the community have been at the heart of Aldeburgh Music since its beginnings in the first Aldeburgh Festival of 1948. Continuing the legacy of Benjamin Britten, who encouraged the breaking down of boundaries between the amateur and professional, Aldeburgh Education has inspired over 50 years of performances and events, involving the local community as performers, audiences and inspiration.

Aldeburgh Education:

• delivers a pioneering programme of arts-based, creative education projects of around 250 days of activity annually, involving over 8,000 participants;
  

• works with schools, juvenile offenders, young people in and out of formal education, audiences and young developing artists and musicians;
  

• believes in education through the arts, rather than arts education.
