The Aldeburgh Gateway

On-Line Projects | On-line Commissions | Downloadable Resources

A major new initiative for Aldeburgh is the development of a virtual arts centre. Known as TAG (The Aldeburgh Gateway), the project has been researched and developed since 2003. Starting with a European pilot project, 'A Digital Portrait' has become the foundation and inspiration for several further innovative projects to be developed over the coming years. We hope TAG will grow into a presentation platform (showcasing exhibitions, performances and on-line installations), as well as a platform for debate and innovative projects enhanced by an on-line element. We hope these projects will eventually take place between schools, prisons and community groups locally, nationally and beyond.

Connecting Hands

'Cultural Mirror'
2004

Our second project, 'A Cultural Mirror', connected four rural Suffolk schools with a pyramid of four inner-city London schools, based in Poplar. Exploring and celebrating their very different communities through virtual and real-time exchanges, the schools made use of the latest creative technology to manipulate images, sound and text-based work. In addition, a secure forum allowed further contact and discussion.

Our third major project, 'Sound Moves', explored music, dance and film, using the environment as an impetus for improvisation and composition. It culminated in a major performance and celebration of several TAG projects.

We are grateful to the Citigroup Foundation for their generous support for this project

In March 2007 a new interactive commission will be launched.
