HMP & YOI Warren Hill - Background

Aldeburgh Education has been working at HMP & YOI Warren Hill since 1999/2000.

The work combines music with the use of new technologies and enables creativity in the most unexpected context. The arts products generated are of the highest possible quality and aim to inspire and educate all young people and prison staff involved. The work provides extensive opportunities for a variety of transferable skills to be developed.

Carlford Unit

After a highly successful 10 year programme of work at HMP & YOI Warren Hill, Aldeburgh Education launched an exciting new project in September 2010. Delivered in partnership with Norwich based C>Media, the project will run once a week and will focus on developing media and music based skills through the creation of a Media Station. The station will introduce three elements; radio, film and journalism with the young people taking responsibility for producing their own material and running the station.

Working alongside professionals from the industry the young people will be involved in all aspects of the station and will learn valuable practical and social skills.

The project launched on September 7th with three special guests coming along to speak about the term’s chosen topic of “Adapting to Change” – John McCarthy, Akala and Rodrigo Viera a.k.a MC Mercheal. The 12 week programme will see various guest speakers and special guest group activities, such as a whole group music fusion afternoon led by the Jazz musician and composer, Pete Letanka.

Release on Temporary Licence Opportunities

Working closely with Officers at HMP & YOI Warren Hill, Aldeburgh Education provides numerous opportunities for young people eligible for release on temporary Licence. With roles ranging from project assistants to helping ground staff and providing technical support, these opportunities provide valuable links with the local community, building necessary skills needed for release.
