Haydn The Creation
Haydn was inspired to write The Creation during his visits to England in 1791–1792 and 1794–1795, when he heard oratorios of Handel performed by large forces.
Haydn's work on The Creation lasted from October 1796 to April 1798. It was a profound act of faith for this deeply religious man. He later remarked, ‘I was never so devout as when I was at work on The Creation; I fell on my knees each day and begged God to give me the strength to finish the work.’ It was the longest time he had ever spent on a single composition. Explaining this, he wrote, ‘I spent much time over it because I expect it to last for a long time.’ Which of course it will.

Aldeburgh Music Club was founded by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears in 1952. Its members meet together for the enjoyment of making music and to present public concerts of high standards with relatively low seat prices.
The Choir numbers over 80 singers who meet each Tuesday evening from September to May in the Aldeburgh Community & Sports Centre. Director of Music, Edmond Fivet, says: ‘I feel that the Club should spread its wings and embrace a variety of musical experiences which can be enjoyed by the community.’
