Tchaikovsky Serenade op.48 in C
They are mentored and joined in performance by some of Europe’s leading orchestral and chamber musicians, amongst them principals from the Leipzig
Gewandhaus and London Symphony Orchestra, and former members of the Alban Berg and Belcea Quartets.
Britten’s affectionate homage to his teacher – each movement supposedly reflecting a facet of the older man’s character – is astonishingly assured and
immediately appealing, a kaleidoscope of shifting colours and moods. John Woolrich’s concertante work for violin veers from the skittish to the lyrical whilst the glorious Serenade from Tchaikovsky justly retains a place as a cornerstone of the string repertoire.
