Beethoven Overture ‘Coriolan’
Beethoven Piano Concerto No.4
Beethoven Symphony No.5
Featuring three of the most compelling openings in all music, these masterpieces pitch the listener headlong into the musical drama. Familiarity with Beethoven’s famous symphony and its triumphal finale cannot lessen the impact of its legendary opening whilst the tragic, heroic figure of Coriolan is also heralded by a powerful unison of orchestral statements. By contrast the concerto’s deceptive simplicity and famously daring solo piano opening stands as an oasis of peace. Led by the charismatic Richard Tognetti, ACO has blazed a trail for thrilling un-conducted performances of the chamber orchestra repertoire.
