Miklós Perényi cello
Robin Ticciati conductor
Britten Cello Symphony
Bruckner Symphony No.4 ‘Romantic’
Dramatic, dark, urgent and intense, Britten’s arresting cello symphony embeds the soloist’s soulful song in the very heart of an orchestra. Famously inspired by and written for Mstislav Rostropovich’s passionate virtuosity, this unique and radical piece is testament to an inspired musical collaboration.
Britten’s claustrophobic intensity stands in stark contrast to the wide-open spaces and airy grandeur of Bruckner’s mighty symphony, whose progress from
distant horn fanfares to its unforgettable joyous, blazing finale is drenched in the sounds of nature and the countryside. Miklós Perényi joins forces with
Robin Ticciati, the dynamic and inspirational musical director of both Glyndebourne and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
