The Mahler Chamber Orchestra offers a fresh and insightful mix of classical and 20th-century, spiced with Haydnesque humour; Ligeti uses unorthodox tuning to create a bewitching mesh of textures but in Haydn’s hands ‘de-tuned’ instruments are pure slapstick.

Pre-concert performance Aldeburgh Young Musicians and Richard Benjafield present Aldo Clementi’s L’Orologio di Arcevia, a piece written for the carillon of a town clock.

Composed of around 40 musicians from 20 different nations, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra plays operas and concerts all over the world, in cities as well as at exclusive festivals from the North Pole to the Red Sea.
The Orchestra was founded in 1997 by the musicians themselves and Claudio Abbado, and the two have been reaching milestones of European musical life together ever since.
