Claudio Desderi is unfortunately not going to be able to lead the Mozart Opera course due to ill health. We offer him our very best wishes for his speedy recovery.
We are very fortunate, however, to have secured the services of Matelda Cappelletti and Umberto Chiummo - both close colleagues of Claudio's - who will coach the classes in his place.
Matelda has established a reputation as one of Italy's foremost young stage directors with a particular expertise in the Da Ponte operas. Umberto Chiummo studied with Desderi and made his debut singing Count Almaviva in 1986. Since then his major international career has included all the major baritone roles of the Mozart Da Ponte operas with conductors who include Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta and the late Charles Mackerras.
This end-of-course recital features semi-staged performances with piano.
