Open Session: Alex Wilson

Alex Wilson’s extraordinary Mali Latino project was one of Aldeburgh’s 2009 highlights. He returns for an Aldeburgh Residency from 10-13 January to work on his forthcoming solo piano album and prepare for future projects with Aldeburgh Music.

Here he presents an informal solo set - a unique opportunity to hear this exhilarating musician present brand new material in the intimate surroundings of the Britten Studio.

Composer, arranger, performer and educator Alex Wilson is one of the UK’s foremost Latin-jazz musicians.

As a pianist he has performed and recorded with Courtney Pine, Jazz Jamaica, Sandra Cross, Adalberto Santiago and Jocelyn Brown.

His recent Mali Latino project, developed in part through the Aldeburgh Residency scheme with kora player Madou Sidiki Diabaté and percussionist Ahmed Fofana, was performed both at Aldeburgh Music's Housewarming weekend in May 2009 as well as during the Snape Proms in August 2009.
