or The Rake’s Return
Music and lyrics by Neil Innes
A new adaptation by Graham Baker from an original play by Henry Fielding
Rescheduled from November, this is a unique opportunity to hear work in progress from a master of musical satire. Often called ‘the seventh Python’, Neil Innes’ cult status was formed with the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, The Rutles and Monty Python.
With a cast including Vicki Michelle (‘Allo ‘Allo!), this full-length performance is the first public showing of a new music theatre work before it transfers to the stage.

This brand new work of musical theatre brings together the respective satirical genius of two of the 18th century's most renowned social commentators: William Hogarth and Henry Fielding.
With text by Graham Baker and music by Neil Innes, the show draws on characters and incidents from Fielding's witty farce Rape upon Rape, or The Justice Caught In His Own Trap and re-invents them as Hogarthian moral archetypes, springing to vivid life in the imagination of the artist as he commences work a new set of 'moral fable' tableaux: The Rake's Return.
