Folk Music and Early Music both open windows into the past. Bring the two together to share inspiration and expertise – where Art meets Folk – there are
new and exciting opportunities to learn from history, and to discover new work growing out of a wealth of music and song.
Revisiting their surprisingly common heritage, an astonishing line-up of leading traditional musicians from England and Scotland join the ever-inventive period instrument group Concerto Caledonia exploring the past and looking to the future. The ancient melds with the new, musical styles and national traditions collide, and traditional songs are reclaimed from high art and restored to their proper place.
We are sorry to announce that Martin Carthy and Suzie LeBlanc have had to withdraw from the performance at short notice; we are delighted that Jim Moray and Mairi Campbell have joined Concerto Caledonia to replace them. The inventive and versatile Jim Moray is one of the leading figures of the UK's folk scene, but transcends the conventional boundaries of folk and traditional music, appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Cambridge Folk Festival and WOMAD. Singer and fiddle player Mairi Campbell trained as a viola player before immersing herself in traditional msuic; she is one half of folk duo The Cast with husband, David Francis.
