Britten
Song Cycles to be recorded
The three Britten Song Cycles concerts given by Malcolm Martineau
and recent alumni in the 62nd Aldeburgh Festival this summer
proved an outstanding success. There are plans to record them
with the same artists in early 2010 in the new Britten Studio
at Snape Maltings.
The
recording will be funded by Aldeburgh Music and released on
Onyx Classics. If we sell enough copies it will pay for itself
but to reduce our risk we are hoping to find some supporters
to underwrite the recording. If you might be interested in being
involved with this exciting project, please contact Kate Lloyd,
Head of External Relations, on klloyd@aldeburgh.co.uk.
Elizabeth Atherton (Strauss, Mahler, Mozart, 2002) stepped in
at the last minute to give a stunning performance of Britten's
On this Island. She was here starring in Harrison Birtwistle's
Semper
Dowland, semper dolens and The
Corridor that opened the Festival in the new Hoffmann
Building.

50th
anniversary celebrated in June
The 50th anniversary celebration of the Hesse Student Scheme
was a great success, with a special guest appearance by Michael
Chance (Hesse 1975) and Iain Burnside (Hesse 1974) in the
62nd Aldeburgh Festival.
Simon Loftus, Sophia Tennant, Michael Lloyd, Rose Battye,
Sarah Zins, Paul and Rosalind Newis (nee Harris), Ariane Bankes
and Peter Khoroche were just some of the many Hesses that
came back for the concert and the reception.
We are planning another get-together in November at Kings
Place in London, when Aldeburgh Music is in residence
there.
