A collection of mechanical and electronic instruments
Ligeti Poème Symphonique for 100 metronomes
Harrison Birtwistle Chronometer for 2 asynchronous 4-track tapes; Harrison’s Clocks, for solo piano
A celebration of composer Harrison Birtwistle and the new spaces at Snape. Culminating in the Britten Studio with a performance of Harrison’s Clocks, Birtwistle’s tour-de-force for solo piano invoking John Harrison’s notorious 18th-century timepieces, this two-hour promenade explores the whole building, including the Jerwood Kiln Studio.
The event also includes Chronometer, his tape piece taking its source from clock mechanisms, a collection of timepieces ancient and modern, and music for 100 metronomes.
All combine to create an aural snapshot of the precision and intricacies produced by composer and craftsmen alike.
