Louis Lortie piano
Schumann Nachtstücke Op.23; Fantasiestücke Op.111
Heinz Holliger Elis (drei Nachtstücke für Klavier)
Elliott Carter Night Fantasies
Ravel Gaspard de la Nuit
Night’s mysteries and occasional terrors lurk here, from Schumann’s startling, almost improvisatory dream-like sequences to Ravel’s extraordinary poetic evocations.
Restless and ever-changing, Carter has likened the shifting sonic sands of Night Fantasies to ‘the fleeting thoughts and feelings that pass through the mind during a period of wakefulness at night’.
